Students learn medical terminology, medical abbreviations and glossary words pertaining to Cardiovascular and other medical specialties.

Basic Cardiovascular Anatomy and Physiology
Students will learn the basic Anatomy and Physiology of the cardiovascular system, the following are covered.
Heart size, location
Heart structure. pericardium, epicardium. myocardium and endocardium
Heart Valves, semilunar & ventricular
Chambers, Atria and Ventricles
Blood circulation, systemic and coronary. circulation of blood through the heart and through the whole body.
Major blood vessels. Arteries and Veins
Tissue perfusion, capillaries.Arterioles and Venules
Physiology of the heart
Cardiac Cycle, Valve function and pressure in the ventricles
Heart sounds, Aortic pressure, pulse pressure and blood pressure
Hemodynamics
Heart rate, stroke volume and cardiac output
Baroreceptors and chemoreceptors
Peripheral resistance
Compliance, preload and afterload
Conduction system of the heart
SA node AV node, Bundle of Hiss, right and left bundle branches

Prerequisites: 101,102,103
Electrophysiology of the Cardiovascular system
Students will learn the following basic electrophysiology
Cardiac Cycle and electricle conduction system
Transmembrane potential
Action potential, Phase 0 - Phase 4
Polarization, Depolarization, Repolarization and Refractory period

Prerequisites: 101,102,103 and 104
ECG Techniques and Recognition
Students Learn the definition and position of body
Anterior- ventral, Posterior- dorsal, superior, Inferior. Medial, Lateral
Sagital, Transverse or horizontal, this will help the students for lead placement
Students will identify and learn the explanation of the following:
Waveforms: PQRS and T waves, Baseline values & normal sinus rhythm
ECG measurement
Time, Heart rate, Voltage, Axis, intervals,segments, complexes and ST segment
ECG Leads: Bipolar, unipolar, precordial and Einthoven s triangle and law

he students will learn the following ECG, Hotter and stress testing
Instrumentation
ECG calibration methods
Single channel, three channel, troubleshooting and paper speed
Recognition of recording Artefacts
Electrical Interference, Somatic tremor, Wandering base line
Patient Safety - Electrical Hazards - Pacemaker hazards
Electrical current leakage, broken cords and plugs
ground connectors and electrical shock
Students perform the ECG on each other in the Lab and learn to identify ECG waveform,
the abnormal ECG strips will be given to identify.

Prerequisites: 101, 102 ,103, 104, 105
Abnormal ECG Recognition and Interpretation
Students will learn the following to identify and describe
Sinus arrhythmias, Sinus bradycardia, Sinus tachycardia
Atrial arrhythmias/PSVT, Ventricular arrhythmias, AV dissociation
SA node blocks and sinus pause, bundle branch block
Heart blocks
First degree heart block , second degree type 1 and type 11 and third degree block
Wolff- Parkinson White syndrome and Cardiac Pacemakers
The students learn the normal and abnormal 12 lead Electrocardiogram
in various cardiac pathology like Myocardial Ischemia, injury & Infarction

Cardiac Stress test, Indications and Contraindications
The Stress Testing indications will be covered in detail. the students will learn
about the ischemic heart disease contraindications.

Electrocardiographic Tracing Technique
Students learn to take patient's clinical history pertaining to Cardiopulmonary problems.
Students learn the proper technique for ECG examination including the lead placement and evaluation of PQRST.
Perform ECG on each other and identify the ECG tracing
The abnormal ECG tracing will be presented to the students to test their knowledge
to detect the abnormalities.
Students learn how to assist the physician for Cardiac Stress test and to
prepare the patient for both treadmill and pharmacological stress test.
